Dionne Lee

Biography

Dionne Lee (b. 1988, United States) is an American photographer whose work examines the relationship between landscape, history, and the Black body in the United States. Her practice interrogates how land is shaped by power, memory, and survival, often referencing histories of displacement, migration, and resistance.

Working primarily with photography, video, and collage, Lee constructs images that are both conceptually rigorous and visually layered. Her work frequently features fragmented bodies, dense natural environments, and symbolic gestures, challenging traditional representations of landscape by inserting Black subjectivity into spaces historically defined by exclusion.

Lee’s work has been exhibited widely in institutions and galleries, and she represents a significant voice in contemporary photography. For collectors, her practice is particularly compelling within the context of politically engaged image-making and the evolving discourse around landscape and identity in photobook and exhibition formats.
