Zackary Drucker

Biography

Zackary Drucker (born 1983 in Syracuse, New York) is an American multimedia artist, photographer, filmmaker, and cultural producer whose work explores gender, sexuality, and the complexity of trans experience. She holds a BFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts and an MFA in Photography and Media from CalArts, and her practice spans photography, performance, film, and television.

Drucker’s work has been widely exhibited in major museums and festivals, including the Whitney Biennial, MoMA PS1, the Hammer Museum, the Art Gallery of Ontario, MCA San Diego, and SFMOMA. Her photographic projects—such as “Relationship” (with Rhys Ernst), “Rosalyne,” and “Icons”—combine intimate portraiture with broader investigations of identity, desire, and community. She often engages with trans elders and historical archives, emphasizing the urgency of preserving trans histories and expanding cultural narratives around gender.

Beyond the art world, Drucker is known for her influential work in film and television. She was a producer and consultant on the award‑winning series “Transparent” and received an Emmy nomination for producing the docuseries “This Is Me.” She has directed or co-directed several acclaimed documentaries, including “The Lady and the Dale” (2021), “Queenmaker: The Making of an It Girl” (2023), “The Stroll” (2023), and “Enigma” (2025), each centered on trans or queer histories and storytelling.

A prominent figure in contemporary trans cultural production, Drucker uses her platform to challenge reductive representations and to advocate for visibility, empathy, and historical understanding. Her work continues to shape public conversations around gender and identity, positioning her as one of the most significant American trans artists of her generation.
