Phil Penman (born 1977 in Brixton, South London) is an internationally celebrated British contemporary street photographer, photojournalist, and educator based in New York City, renowned for his raw, cinematic, and deeply humanistic black-and-white documentation of Manhattan’s changing urban sociology. Raised in the United Kingdom, Penman developed a passionate obsession with image-making as a teenager, influenced by his father who was an amateur darkroom enthusiast. He completed formal creative training at the Berkshire College of Art and Design, specializing in editorial photojournalism.
