Daniel Naudé (born 1984) is a celebrated contemporary South African photographer renowned for his striking, majestic portraits of domesticated and wild animals positioned within vast landscapes. Graduating from the University of Stellenbosch in 2007, Naudé achieved international critical acclaim with his debut series and book “Animal Farm” (2012), which captured the ancient Africanis dog breed across the desert plains of South Africa’s Karoo region. His photographs look highly orchestrated and painterly, closely mirroring 17th-century equestrian and royal portrait traditions, yet they are captured through immense patience and precise timing in natural environments. Naudé’s work moves beyond simple wildlife photography, investigating the sociological, historical, and psychological boundaries of human control over nature, alongside the complex realities of post-apartheid South Africa. His photographs are held in major public global collections, including the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles and the Fondazione Fotografia in Modena.
