Biography

Eddo Hartmann (born 1973 in The Hague) is a Dutch photographer known for his meticulously composed documentary work examining the relationship between architecture, landscape, and human presence. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague, Hartmann began his career in commercial and editorial photography before shifting toward long-term documentary projects. His acclaimed series “Setting the Stage | North Korea” offers rare access to Pyongyang’s constructed environments, while his award‑winning project “The Sacrifice Zone” documents Kazakhstan’s former Soviet nuclear testing grounds, earning him the Sony World Photography Award in 2024. Hartmann’s work has been exhibited internationally and is held in both public and private collections. Based in Amsterdam, he teaches visual grammar at KABK and runs Artefact Photo, a company specializing in lens‑based documentation of art and cultural heritage.
