Biography

Cig Harvey (born 1973 in Devon, England) is a British-born fine art photographer and writer whose work blends vivid color, surrealism, and emotional narrative to explore themes of nature, memory, sensory experience, and the magic in the everyday. She began working in a darkroom at age thirteen and later earned an MFA from Maine Media College before being named one of PDN’s “30 Emerging Photographers to Watch” in 2005. Harvey’s critically acclaimed monographs—You Look at Me Like an Emergency (2012), Gardening at Night (2015), You an Orchestra You a Bomb (2017), Reveal (2020), and Blue Violet (2021)—have established her as a leading voice in contemporary art photography. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in major museum collections, including the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Farnsworth Art Museum, and the George Eastman Museum. Harvey lives and works in Maine, USA, where the natural landscape continues to inspire her richly poetic and sensory-driven imagery.
