Gregory Heisler (born 1954) is an American portrait photographer renowned for his technically masterful and emotionally rich imagery. He has produced more than seventy cover portraits for TIME magazine, capturing world leaders, artists, athletes, and cultural icons with a distinctive blend of craftsmanship and storytelling. His celebrated and controversial double‑exposure portrait of President George H. W. Bush led to the temporary revocation of his White House credentials, cementing his reputation as a bold and innovative image‑maker. Over his decades‑long career, Heisler has also completed major editorial and advertising commissions for clients such as Life, Esquire, Fortune, Sports Illustrated, Nike, American Express, and Pfizer. His numerous awards include the ASMP Corporate Photographer of the Year, the Leica Medal of Excellence, the World Image Award, and the Alfred Eisenstaedt Award. Heisler has served as Artist‑in‑Residence at the Hallmark Institute of Photography and is currently a Distinguished Professor of Photography at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School.
