Working for the National Child Labor Committee, Hine documented children working in factories, mines, and mills across the United States. His photographs were instrumental in raising public awareness and contributed directly to changes in labor laws.

In addition to his social documentary work, Hine also produced iconic images of workers constructing the Empire State Building, celebrating human labor and dignity. His approach combined factual documentation with a strong ethical and humanistic vision.
