Atiba Jefferson (born 1976 in Colorado Springs, Colorado) is an American photographer celebrated as one of the most influential visual storytellers in contemporary skateboarding, sports, and music culture. Moving to California in 1995, Jefferson immersed himself in the West Coast skate scene, quickly becoming a defining voice through his contributions to magazines such as *Thrasher*, *Slap*, *Transworld Skateboarding*, *Juxtapoz*, and *Monster Children*. His dynamic, cleanly lit images helped shape the visual language of skateboarding for more than three decades. Jefferson is currently a staff photographer for *Thrasher Magazine* and is widely recognized for his ability to capture both the technical precision and cultural spirit of skateboarding.
Beyond skateboarding, Jefferson has had a prolific career photographing professional sports, especially basketball. He served as a staff photographer for the Los Angeles Lakers during the Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant era and holds the record for the most *SLAM* Magazine covers shot by a single photographer. His portraiture and lifestyle photography have appeared in campaigns for Nike, Adidas, Vans, Converse, Supreme, ESPN, Gatorade, Mountain Dew, Red Bull, Oakley, Canon, Netflix, Reebok, and many other major brands. His versatility extends to music and celebrity portraiture, as well as motion‑based work including music videos and commercial directing.
Jefferson is also a Canon Explorer of Light and a Brand Curator for Vans. His work has been exhibited internationally in cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Sydney, Rotterdam, and Honolulu. In addition, he co‑directed the ESPN documentary *Monochrome*, celebrating the Black experience in skateboarding, which received a Clio Award and an Emmy nomination. Known for his collaborative spirit and technical precision, Jefferson remains one of the most respected and widely recognized photographers across action sports and popular culture.
