Sarah Moon (born 1941 as Marielle Warin) is an internationally revered French master photographer and filmmaker celebrated for her ethereal, impressionistic, and deeply dreamlike visual style. Initially finding success as a top haute couture fashion model in London and Paris during the 1960s, she crossed over behind the lens in 1968. Moon revolutionized high-fashion imagery by completely bypassing the sharp, literal, and erotically charged lenses used by her male contemporaries. Collaborating intensely with Cacharel in 1968, she created a whimsical, romantic, and nostalgia-steeped aesthetic that defined a generation. In 1972, she made art history as the first woman ever commissioned to shoot the legendary Pirelli Calendar. Her commercial portfolios expand across decades of elite campaigns for Chanel, Dior, Comme des Garçons, and Yohji Yamamoto. Her distinct prints are permanently held in prestigious global institutions including the Centre Pompidou, the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, and the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris.
