Biography
Fumi Nagasaka is a highly acclaimed Japanese contemporary photographer and visual storyteller based in Brooklyn, New York. Moving from Nagoya to New York in 2002 to immerse herself in North American culture, she launched her career casting and shooting street fashion for the Japanese cult publication Street Magazine. Over the past two decades, Nagasaka has carved out a unique space bridging the worlds of high fashion and long-form documentary photography. Her personal practice centers on honest, unmediated portrayals of adolescent youth, subcultures, and marginalized communities. Her sensitive lens documents the bittersweet, vulnerable transitions from childhood to adulthood. She has published multiple celebrated monographs, including “Untitled Youth” (2016), “Teenage Riot” (2018), and “Marching Wolves” (2022). Her editorial and commercial clients include premier global names such as Louis Vuitton, Dior, Google, The New York Times, and Vogue.
