Marilyn Nance

Biography

Marilyn Nance (born November 12, 1953) is a distinguished American visual artist, photojournalist, and digital pioneer known for documenting African American life and cultural rituals for over five decades. She achieved significant recognition as the official photographer for the US contingent at FESTAC ’77 in Lagos, Nigeria, capturing extensive documentation of the Pan-African movement. Her work has been published in major publications like Life, The New York Times, and The Village Voice. Nance’s photographs are in the collections of major institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the Library of Congress.
