Description

What Are Our Supports? is a polyphonic anthology co-edited by Joni Low and Jeff O’Brien. Based on a series of 2018 public art projects in Vancouver’s Cathedral Square Park, the book investigates the underrecognized structures—relational, material, and incidental—that sustain artistic production and community survival. Centered around Germaine Koh’s “Boothy” installation, the contributors explore “pleasure activism” and mutual aid as critical responses to environmental and social precarity. The volume weaves together original artist reflections, newly commissioned poetry, and influential reprinted texts to challenge the privatization of public life and propose alternative, sustainable futures through collective care.
