French photographer Eric Lusito explores the once-closed world of “Big Science” in the former Soviet Union. From cosmic ray research centers in the Armenian mountains to massive radars in Ukraine, Lusito documents the decaying utopian infrastructure of the Cold War. These institutes were once the pride of a system that promoted science as a replacement for religion, now left as crumbling, futuristic relics. The book features a tactile laser-cut cover replicating Soviet punched paper tape, and includes a scholarly introduction by historian Paul Josephson.
