Description

First published in 1988, “Exiles” established Josef Koudelka as one of the most powerful visual poets of his generation. This 1997 Aperture edition is significantly enhanced, featuring 71 duotone plates—ten more than the original—and an expanded biographical chronology. Koudelka’s panoramic vision and stark black-and-white compositions offer a unique perspective on a Europe in flux. The collaboration with Czesław Miłosz adds a literary depth that mirrors the visual melancholy of the plates, making this specific edition a cornerstone of any serious photographic library.
