Work in Process is Dayanita Singh’s meditative, sometimes melancholic exploration of work environments across India. Divided into three visual chapters, it reedits larger series from her archive around the theme of labor. “Museum of Machines” presents stately black-and-white factory equipment; “Blue Book” features industrial landscapes in serendipitous color; and “Go Away Closer” returns to black-and-white to capture a vast range of subjects from shop clutter to scooter warehouses. The book includes a text by Urs Stahel, providing context to Singh’s unique framing of the industrial soul.
