Object Portraits is a monograph by Eric J. Zetterquist that explores ancient Asian ceramics through a contemporary photographic lens. By isolating minute formal elements and highlighting negative space, Zetterquist creates large-scale, flattened black-and-white images with “painterly” edges. These “warm minimalist” abstractions evoke Asian calligraphy and challenge viewers to explore concepts of form in both ancient and contemporary contexts. The book includes an essay by noted ceramics critic Garth Clark and was limited to a first edition of 1,000 copies.
