Nancy Honey’s 100 Leading Ladies brings together one hundred women, one hundred portraits and one hundred stories. Published by Dewi Lewis Media, the book is a celebration of the achievements of one hundred of Britain’s influential senior women, and is framed as a living history that explores the personal and private issues surrounding women’s success in the workplace.
The cast ranges from well-known figures such as Germaine Greer, Lucinda Lampton and Kirsty Wark to women admired chiefly by peers in their own fields, among them Averil Mansfield, described by the publisher as the UK’s first female professor of surgery. Politicians, scientists, restaurateurs, CEOs and authors appear alongside Britain’s oldest working super model. Many of the subjects were the first women in their fields, and all lived through a remarkable era of change.
For each portrait, Honey invited her sitter to choose a place she goes to for inspiration; photographing the women in those settings gives the viewer further insight into their lives, personalities and character. The interviews were conducted by Hattie Garlick, a former Times journalist, and each woman speaks in her own words, sharing advice and personal reflection.
The book is a hardback of 224 pages, measuring 335 by 245 millimetres, with the ISBN 978-1-905928-10-1. It is a Dewi Lewis Media title.
