Moon City

Moon City

Softcover English 120 pages 22.7 × 30

Description

In Moon City, Mimi Mollica brings the Moon into conversation with London’s financial skyline. The publisher describes the project as an exploration of the tension between an ancient natural force and the ambitions embodied in the contemporary city. Its subject is the relationship between nature and capitalism, approached through photographs that invite a pause in the pace of urban life.

The publisher’s sample spreads give a sense of how these concerns become visible. A close view of the Moon is paired with an illuminated building; elsewhere, clouds, construction machinery and a helicopter appear within circular or partially obscured views. Warm orange light and deep shadows meet cooler images of the sky. These examples suggest a way of looking that moves between distant celestial forms and the structures and activity of the city, allowing visual associations to develop across facing pages.

Mollica connects the project to the pressures of climate change, political upheaval, social unrest and collective trauma. In the publisher’s account, the work offers room to look upward and reconsider perspectives that can be lost amid those pressures. This framing gives the photographs a social context without reducing the Moon to a single symbol or the city to a straightforward architectural survey.

Designed by Ramon Pez, the book includes texts by Iain Sinclair and Brad Feuerhelm. This 2025 Dewi Lewis Publishing edition contains 120 pages, with English text, in a softcover format with a special sleeve case. The publisher gives its dimensions as 300 × 227 mm. The regular book is catalogued here; the separately offered print bundles are not treated as additional editions. For readers, the available spreads provide an introduction to the book’s interplay of urban details, celestial imagery and paired photographs.
