After Nature documents the work of Isadora Romero, recipient of the Ulrike Crespo Photography Prize, awarded in 2025 for the second time. The prize is a joint project of the C/O Berlin Foundation and the Crespo Foundation, Frankfurt, and honors artists who explore new concepts of nature through photography and other visual media. The book was edited by Katharina Täschner for the C/O Berlin Foundation and published by Hartmann Books, with prefaces by Stephan Erfurt and Christiane Riedel and texts by Juliety Pestarino and Katharina Täschner.
For this project, Romero researches the cohabitation of humans and forests across past, present, and future, using two rainforests in Ecuador as her field of inquiry. Her collaborations with scientists and local communities produce a narrative about the forest’s spiritual, political, and ecological dimensions, shaped both by indigenous knowledge and by old and new technologies.
The publication is a softcover volume of 156 pages with 86 illustrations, measuring 17 × 24 cm. It contains German, English, and Spanish texts, with design by Naroska, Berlin. The accompanying exhibition is presented at C/O Berlin from 27 September 2025 to 28 January 2026.
