GreedFearLove

Soft cover with large flaps paperback German, English 128 pages 23 × 27

Description

GreedFearLove is a photographic book by Loredana Nemes, published by Hartmann Books. Its German-language title is GierAngstLiebe, and the volume presents 91 illustrations across 128 pages. The edition is soft cover with large flaps and measures 23 × 27 cm. The texts are in German and English. GreedFearLove was designed by Alexandra Zöller, Berlin. Katja Petrowskaja and Ulrich Domröse are the authors of the accompanying texts; Nemes is the photographer. The publisher does not state a publication date in its specifications, so the year is not given here.

The book surveys six large photographic series that Nemes made while engaging intensively with questions of identity and personality. Among the series are Fear, for which she photographed blurred portraits of truck fronts, and Greed, which shows seagulls hunting for food. Other included bodies of work are Onca: An Approach, with male body fragments; beyond the foreignness of other cultures; Blossom Time, which follows the transformation process of adolescence; and The Presentation, which uses portraits of costumed carnival revelers to address identity and group membership.

Nemes was born in Romania, lived for a time in Iran, and today lives in Germany. The publisher describes her work as clear and conceptual, while noting that her images also contain a secretive, mysterious element that can invite an emotional, personal response from viewers. The publisher calls the book the most comprehensive monograph on her oeuvre to date and identifies it as accompanying a solo exhibition at the Berlinische Galerie.
