After Nature – The Ulrike Crespo Photography Prize is a joint project of the C/O Berlin Foundation and the Crespo Foundation, Frankfurt. The prize is awarded for the second time in 2025 and honors artists who explore new concepts of nature in photography and other visual media. This publication presents Lisa Barnard’s prize-winning project, in which she investigates how technology shapes human perception and affects our relationship to the environment.
Drawing on a wide array of image-making processes, Barnard presents expansive artistic research into echolocation, revealing unexpected connections between animal consciousness, driverless vehicle technologies, lithium mining, and nuclear test sites. The book is edited by Katharina Täschner for the C/O Berlin Foundation. It includes prefaces by Stephan Erfurt and Christiane Riedel, and texts by Lisa Barnard, Anil Seth, and Katharina Täschner. Design is by Naroska, Berlin.
Published by Hartmann Books as a softcover, the book measures 17 × 24 cm and has 156 pages with 67 illustrations. It is a German/English bilingual edition. An exhibition at C/O Berlin runs from 27 September 2025 to 28 January 2026.
