It's All One Song

It's All One Song

hardcover with screen print, Swiss brochure, Japanese binding hardcover English, Italian 122 pages 24 × 32.5

Description

Marco Zanta has spent decades photographing the built environment, and “It’s All One Song” gathers architectural images made across Europe, the United States, Asia, and Africa. The book proceeds by juxtaposition rather than chronology: interiors give way to exteriors, postmodern structures to buildings in disrepair, and these in turn to cityscapes of concrete, steel, and glass. Rather than presenting a conventional survey, the sequence draws disparate places and periods into a shared register, moving between what the publisher describes as promising utopia and late capitalist nightmare.

Zanta is the photographer; the book’s text is by Stefania Rossl, here identified as the author of the accompanying essay rather than as a photographer, and the design is by Damiano Fraccaro of Otium. Hartmann Books publishes the volume in a bilingual English and Italian edition of 122 pages with 80 illustrations. The photographs were made over the course of the last decades during Zanta’s travels, and the book’s own sequencing, rather than an external chronological framework, organizes how they are encountered.

Physical production is part of the book’s structure. The 24 by 32.5 centimeter hardcover carries an embossed screen print and is bound as a Swiss brochure with Japanese binding, decisions that shape how the pages open and how the image sequence unfolds. The English and Italian texts run alongside the photographs, making the book accessible to readers in both languages while keeping the image sequence primary. For readers of contemporary architectural photography, the volume offers a sustained photographic statement built from rhythm and adjacency.
