mónos

Hardcover, embossed hardcover Italian, English 64 pages 22 × 26

Description

Vincenzo Pagliuca is the photographer of the book “mónos,” published by Hartmann Books in 2022. The project is set in the southern Apennines of Italy, where Pagliuca photographed solitary buildings. His subjects are simple houses composed of elementary geometric shapes; some rudimentary dwellings resemble pastel miniature parodies of historical or avant-garde buildings. He photographed from a central perspective and under an overcast sky, and the buildings, seemingly out of place and assembled from architectural elements that often do not quite fit together, become what the publisher calls “sculptures of the common man,” prompting reflection on how and why people build, live, and think.\n\nGiovanni Fiorentino is the author of the book’s text, not its photographer. Pagliuca is credited as the photographer. The book was designed by Vincenzo Pagliuca and Simon Grunert. It is a hardcover, embossed edition measuring 22 × 26 cm, with 64 pages and 25 illustrations. The book is published in Italian and English; the publisher also lists the text as Italian/English. The ISBN is 978-3-96070-094-4. An independent catalog record describes 52 pages and English only; the publisher data is preferred.\n\nAbout the photographer, the publisher states that Pagliuca studied economics before turning to photography as an autodidact and attended Antonio Biasiucci’s “laboratorio irregolare.” His long-term projects focus primarily on rural and suburban regions of his native country. His work has been exhibited and published internationally. “mónos” is his second book. He lives and works in Brescia.
