Cue the Sun is a frenetic visual journey through Northern India, captured by Trent Parke in early 2020 just a week before the global pandemic took hold. Travelling between cities like Delhi, Agra, and Amritsar, Parke photographed the rushing world from fast-moving taxis and buses. The book is ingeniously designed as a vast, 20-meter long double-printed concertina (leporello). One side of the fold-out features night-time photographs illuminated by a harsh, all-consuming flash, while the other side features daytime scenes. This “movie in book form” blurs the line between past and future, presenting India as a buzzing passage of communal movement towards a smartphone-driven modernity.
