Grey Skies Black Birds

Grey Skies Black Birds

Hardback cloth covered hardcover English 210 pages

Description

Grey Skies Black Birds was published by GOST Books in 2015 to mark the twentieth anniversary of the Dayton Agreement, the treaty that ended the Bosnian War. The book is the result of a long-term project by the photographers Stéphanie Borcard and Nicolas Métraux. It aims to give a face to the cities and landscapes whose names became familiar in the collective memory of the Bosnian War, and it also presents the faces of the country itself, examining the impact of the post-war situation on individuals born before, during, and after the conflict.

The photographs focus on how the postwar condition is carried by different generations, making the passage of a generation visible in ordinary settings. Rather than following a political chronology, the sequence returns to the same ground to register change and continuity together.

Texts by Saša Stanišić, Srećko Latal, and Christian Caujolle accompany the photographs, bringing literary, journalistic, and critical perspectives alongside the images. The contributors are credited as authors of these texts, while Borcard and Métraux are credited as the photographers of the project.

GOST Books issued the book as a 210-page hardback in cloth binding. The publication is a documentary project shaped into a book, with the images supported by the accompanying texts.
