Decisive Days is the first major monograph by Finnish artist Elina Brotherus, covering her formative years from 1997 to 2001. The book features poignant series such as “The Girl Spoke of Love” and “Suite française,” which use self-portraiture and landscape to explore themes of love, loneliness, and the struggle to integrate into a new culture and language after her move to France. Her work is characterized by a formal rigour that draws heavily from the history of painting, blending emotional intimacy with classical composition.
