Rafał Milach’s I Am Warning You is a boxed set of four softcover books with exposed spines, published by GOST Books in 2021 and designed by Ania Nałęcka-Milach. The project examines three border walls: the fortified United States–Mexico border (referenced as #13767), the Hungarian–Serbian–Croatian electric fence, and the Berlin Wall (Death Strip). Collectively, the books present an architectural survey dedicated to propaganda and control, while also gathering the memories and scars of borderland communities.
Across the four volumes, the walls change. The American structure is heavily fortified and militarized; the Hungarian fence is electrified and more recent; the Berlin Wall survives as traces and memory imprints. This degradation from one book to the next is central to the project. Milach treats each border as both an architectural subject and a psychic one, and the essays—by Michael Dear, Antje Rávic Strubel, and Ziemowit Szczerek—extend the inquiry into testimony and reflection.
The design supports the comparative structure. Soft covers and exposed spines keep the individual volumes approachable, even as their subject is state violence. The publisher credits Ania Nałęcka-Milach with the design. The publisher specifies a total of 312 pages.
The set’s significance lies in the completeness of the project: a coordinated investigation of three borders with photography as the through-line. Milach is known for work on propaganda, control, and memory, and here the subject is the physical apparatus of division. The language is English and the imprint is GOST.
