Remember Me

Remember Me

Hardback hardcover English 132 pages

Description

For seventeen years, Preston Gannaway has photographed a boy named EJ, beginning around the time his mother, Carolynne, was dying of liver cancer when he was four years old. The book follows him into adulthood, building a longitudinal record of a single life as it unfolds. Its subject is not a single event but the slow work of becoming: the ordinary days, the changing body, the long aftermath of loss.

Gannaway came to the family as a young photojournalist on assignment for the Concord Monitor in New Hampshire in 2006, and the relationship outlasted the assignment. That proximity shapes the book’s method. Portraits, landscapes, and small domestic details accumulate without melodrama, allowing grief, masculinity, and mortality to surface through sequence rather than statement. EJ does not stand in for a generation; he remains specific, and the photographs respect the unglamorous texture of a life continuing.

GOST Books published Remember Me in 2023 as a 132-page hardback. The project is ongoing, which gives the book an unusual openness: it is less a closed monograph than a record still being written. For collectors drawn to long-form documentary photography, its value lies in that duration and in the patience of its attention, qualities that are difficult to sustain and rare on the page.
