Exploring abstraction and reflection through a distinctive visual language, Hot Mirror presents the photographic work of Viviane Sassen. The images frequently manipulate light and shadow to create surfaces that act as both literal and metaphorical mirrors, revealing fragmented and layered realities.

The photobook compiles 160 pages of carefully composed studies where human forms and natural elements dissolve into geometric shapes and interplay of color. Sassen’s approach challenges traditional figuration, inviting viewers to reconsider perception and the nature of image-making within contemporary photography.

Published in 2018 by Prestel with contributions from Eleanor Clayton, the volume situates Sassen’s work within ongoing dialogues around abstraction and identity in art.
