Rather than focusing on the people themselves, Anthony Hernandez captures the environments and objects they leave behind—makeshift shelters, discarded belongings, and the “hard spaces” of the city. These 68 color photographs, taken between 2007 and 2012 in areas like Compton, Watts, and South Central, trace the movements of the homeless through a lens that is both clinical and deeply empathetic.
