Josephine Sacabo’s Structures of Reverie begins from a charged proposition: that an imagined architecture might become a means of freedom. Its central figure is a woman who constructs an interior world from light, fragments of memory, hopes, and dreams. Rather than treating architecture as a fixed enclosure, Sacabo conceives it as permeable—an unstable meeting place for body, recollection, and desire.

The work is dedicated to Juana la Loca, the sixteenth-century Spanish queen who was confined for 46 years by her father, husband, and son for political ends. Against that history of darkness, stone, and imposed identity, Sacabo sets the possibility of self-invention. The photographs do not offer a conventional historical account; they approach captivity and release through metaphor, allowing physical rooms and psychological space to overlap.
