Small Things in Silence brings together photographs from twenty years of Masao Yamamoto’s practice. Rather than centering on a single place or event, the book moves among portraits, landscapes, still lifes, everyday scenes and forms found in nature. Its subject is less the extraordinary than the easily missed: modest presences and fleeting incidents that become charged when isolated by the camera and reconsidered in print.

Yamamoto first studied oil painting before turning to photography as a medium capable of evoking memory. That background helps frame the particular attention evident here.
