In “The Dailies,” German artist Thomas Demand departs from his usual practice of recreating politically charged historical scenes. Instead, he uses his own iPhone photographs of unassuming, everyday moments—a plastic cup in a fence, a bar of soap, a “Do Not Disturb” sign—as the basis for his signature paper models. These meticulous sculptures are photographed and then destroyed, leaving only a “trace” of a world that is familiar yet strangely out of reach. Demand describes the series as a form of visual Haiku: simple fragments that trigger a sense of déjà vu and invite reflection on the ordinary beauty of daily life.
