Portrait of Hong Kong is the definitive final project curated by the celebrated photographer and film director Fan Ho. Unlike his earlier works, which leaned heavily on stylised chiaroscuro and pictorial aesthetics, this volume presents a more naturalistic, documentary-oriented view of the city. Selected from over 500 negatives handpicked and cropped by Ho shortly before his death in 2016, the 153 photographs take the reader on a nostalgic journey from the boat people of the West to the quiet waters of the New Territories. Published by WE Press, the book includes a foreword by John Woo and critical excerpts from Ho’s own “Thoughts on Street Photography,” serving as a masterclass in visual storytelling and a poignant goodbye to a bygone era.
