After Nature | Ulrike Crespo Award | Susanne Kriemann

Softcover paperback German, English 160 pages 17 × 24

Description

“After Nature | Ulrike Crespo Award | Susanne Kriemann” is published by Hartmann Books in 2026 as a softcover volume of 160 pages, measuring 17 × 24 cm and including approximately 87 illustrations. The book is edited by Katharina Täschner for the C/O Berlin Foundation, with texts by Kirsty Bell, Kyveli Mavrokordopoulou, and Katharina Täschner, and appears in a German/English edition. In this book, Susanne Kriemann is the photographer. The “After Nature. Ulrike Crespo Photography Prize” is a joint project of the C/O Berlin Foundation and the Crespo Foundation in Frankfurt am Main; it is awarded for the third time in 2026, when two artists are honored for work in photography and visual media responding to the changing ecologies of our time. Alongside Susanne Kriemann, Stelios Kallinikou is the other award winner.

The photographic project presented here traces what the publisher describes as the branching legacies of the atomic age. Kriemann treats radiation not as a distant or abstract phenomenon but as part of immediate surroundings, including landscapes where uranium was once mined and processed. She is also drawn to residues of heavy industry that have quietly entered everyday life, such as the slag used as fill beneath the floors of Berlin Gründerzeit buildings, her own studio among them. Through photographic processes and attentive material observation, she makes these hidden presences visible, addressing how permeable the boundaries are between an industrial past, the landscape, and the spaces we inhabit today.

The volume accompanies exhibitions at C/O Berlin from 12 September 2026 to 3 February 2027 and at Crespo Open Space, Frankfurt, from 26 February to 23 May 2027. The design is by Naroska, Berlin. The essays are contributed by Kirsty Bell, Kyveli Mavrokordopoulou, and Katharina Täschner, while the photographs are by Susanne Kriemann; the book is published in German and English.
