Scatti per Pasolini

Scatti per Pasolini

softcover Italian 80 pages

Description

Published by 5 Continents Editions in 2005, Scatti per Pasolini gathers Mario Dondero’s photographs around Pier Paolo Pasolini and the cultural circle in which he moved. Its 80 pages bring together scenes from Rome in 1961, including Pasolini with Laura Betti and Goffredo Parise, as well as images made on the sets of La rabbia and La ricotta. The frame also widens to figures such as Alberto Moravia, Elsa Morante and Maria Callas, placing Pasolini within a network of writers, artists and performers rather than isolating him as a solitary author.

Dondero’s subject is therefore not simply a portrait of Pasolini, but a record of proximity: domestic and social encounters, professional settings, and the shared milieu that surrounded his literary and cinematic work. The selection suggests a documentary approach attentive to relationships and circumstance. These photographs carry the evidentiary value of lived contact while retaining the openness of photographs made within an active cultural world, where a gesture, a room or a companion can extend the meaning of the central figure.

The book’s editorial identity is also collaborative. Edited by Elisa Dondero and Massimo Raffaeli, the volume brings Mario Dondero’s images into a shared historical frame, connecting individual portraits with the wider literary and cinematic life of their time. For collectors, the book offers a focused photographic account of Pasolini’s milieu, with the added interest of bringing literary, cinematic and artistic histories into one compact publication. The Italian-language softcover measures 24 × 28 cm, a format suited to sustained attention to the photographs without turning the volume into a merely monumental object. It deserves consideration as a carefully bounded document of cultural exchange and photographic witness.
